Artist's Description
I hand painted this silk scarf with images of returning spawning salmon. The 3 salmon are showing the red color that they get during the spawning season. I was inspired to paint this image after fly fishing for steelhead trout with my dad in the Stillaguamish River. In the river in my waders, I was surrounded by over a dozen salmon at one point. I could reach down and touch them. Very memorable moment!

My name is Karla Kay Benjamin. I am an artist that specializes in hand painted silk scarves & wall hangings as well as Dutch Pour/Liquid Acrylic/Abstract Paintings. While I am a native of the PNW, I attended college at Arizona State University and have a BFA with an emphasis in Fiber Arts/Surface Design. I enjoy working on fabric because when the fabric moves it seems to bring the art to life. I enjoy working on silk because of the beautiful way it absorbs the dyes and shimmers when it moves and the light hits it.
